Concerned with the current situation in the Middle East, Dr. Charbel E-H Moussa gives insight into the conflicts within the region and its relations with the U.S. The post-9/11 era and the U.S. war in Iraq have developed a strange group of allies, giving the U.S. an “unprecedented opportunity” to stabilize the Middle East by taking advantage of subtle alliances. Dr Moussa calls on the U.S. to capitalize on this situation, offering solutions for improving the Middle East from within and establishing what he calls a New Mediterranean.
By providing background for the tensions that exist in the Middle East today, Dr. Moussa seeks to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of understanding cultural differences as a step toward reconciling them. If peaceful development is utilized rather than forceful strategies, he contends that a U.S. presence in Iraq can serve a purpose in achieving “The Ultimate Peace.”
