Shorty Stories: A Story about a Dog and Her Famous Wheels introduces young readers and their families to a very special canine. Based on the experiences of the author’s own much-loved pet, this story shows how we can learn to overcome difficulties and adapt to our circumstances.
When Shorty injures her spine, paralyzing her back legs, the veterinarian tells her mommy that the dog will never be able to walk again. Shorty learns to pull herself around with only her front legs, but she is very sad that she can no longer run and play. Even her little brother, Brownie, can’t seem to cheer her up. When Mommy finds a wheelchair for her, Shorty has to learn to move around in a whole new way, and she and her friends are happy to soon find that Shorty’s disability does not need to slow her down.
