A Cottage Small by a River Wall
The cottage small
Stands by a river wall
Listening to the water
Rushing to a rocky waterfall.
Many years ago
What a beautiful sight to see
A small, simple cottage
And for someone a home to be.
The river is unstoppable
Time has taken its toll
The cottage now is unlivable
And soon gravity will take hold.
And the river wall
Will no longer hold the cottage small.
James McCurry is the author of several hundred poems and songs. This is the first selection to be published. He is a graduate of North Texas State University, served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, and has been an investor in stocks, commodities, real estate, oil, gas, racehorses, and small businesses for the last fifty years. He lives in Texas and has a second home in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
