Friendship Is a Gift from God
by Catherine Heller
Can you tell if the friendship you have is real? How can you tell a friend from a mere acquaintance? How about using this Bible verse as a test: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
In her book Friendship Is a Gift from God, Catherine “Katie” Heller narrates the enduring sister-like relationship she had with Edith “Eddy” Craft. Katie, a sweet girl from Indiana, was brought to Alabama by her service in the Army. She met Eddy when she left the Army and started a friendship, which made them decide to buy a home they could share. In the midst of differences and sickness, both learned to feel each other’s worth but not without a couple of laughs.
See how they shared the joys and trials of their lives that spanned almost fifty years.
About the Author
Catherine Heller was born in Indiana but made Alabama her home after she served as secretary in the US Army from 1956 to 1959. She loves writing—an ability she inherited from her father. She once wrote for the school paper in Stephen W. Kearny High School, where she graduated. She also wrote articles for the Methodist church in her community.
Now retired, she spends most of her time in the church as a member of the choir and as an active participant in Bible studies. Being a Good Samaritan in some ways, she always looks forward to help other people in her own capacity.
