by J.J. Johnson

Imagine surviving the perils of combat during the Vietnam War only to be incarcerated when you return home. That is the dilemma that faces J. J. Johnson in this spiritual journey that he experiences firsthand in this autobiographical account of his years in Vietnam and then in prison back in the United States.

He relates his despair at being accused of a felony to his joy at finding God while in jail. His roller-coaster ride at his many parole hearings, where he is alternately told he will be released to being told that his release has been revoked, is heart-rending. Share in this emotional journey.

J. J. Johnson holds an associates degree in applied sciences that he has put to use as a teacherís aide and a social workerís aide. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Johnson is a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with V Device, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Machine Gun Sharpshooter Badge. He enjoys singing gospel, playing the guitar, and listening to jazz and blues music. He has two daughters, two sisters, two brothers, and six grandchildren. And his mother, at age 94, is still living.

On Feb. 21, 2007, he was finally granted parole and is a free man living in America.
