by Leonard J. Parker, Jr.

In this heartfelt volume of sensitive prose, Leonard J. Parker, Jr., shares a diary of private thoughts written to his son-to-be, which he penned while in Desert Storm. Parker’s pride in serving his country in Saudi Arabia is obvious, but his preparedness for the worst is done with sensitivity and commitment. “We are going to survive and we are going to come home. I have to make myself believe this deep down in my heart. I know there is a possibility I may not come home, but if that does happen, just remember that I will visit you and your mother in spirit.”

Parker’s conversational manner creates the image of a father sitting next to his child and talking to him about what is significant in life. Even if the father doesn’t come home, his child would have a wonderful legacy of wisdom and common-sense advice, as well as a real sense of the kind of man his father was.

Reader Review
“When I found out my wife was pregnant, I began thinking that I could go over there (Saudi Arabia) and get killed,” Parker explained. “This kid might not ever get to know anything about me. So, I wrote letters to my wife that were addressed ‘dear kid,’ and my wife kept them all.”
