by Abdullah Bin Juttie

They started out life as slaves and ended up heroes of the Civil War and the fight to tame the wild West, yet they remain unknown and unrecognized for their efforts in uniting this country.

They are The Buffalo Soldiers, God-fearing, community-oriented, African-American men who put God and country first, using their faith to carry them through battles with the Southern rebel forces, Indians, and white men bent on keeping them “in their place.” Although conscripted into the Union Army and later forced to go against their natural instincts and assist the Indian tribes being removed from their lands in order to open the West to white settlers, they showed remarkable dedication, unswerving loyalty, and fierce determination in restoring and expanding the unity of the United States of America. And it is past time we paid them the honor and recognition they so richly deserve!
