About the book: Blood Runs Deep is the story of Jacob and Jonas Hawley, brothers, who by chance or circumstance, find themselves on opposite sides of one of the deadliest battles in American history, the Civil War conflict at Antietam Creek, Maryland. At first glance, the brothers coulf not be more different. Jacob is a Union officer, a duty bound commander with wife and children waiting anxiously for his return. His brother, Jonas, is a Confederate soldier, a loner with few roots and ideas of desertion running rampant. By blood, the brothers inherit a common characteristic: pride, a pride that drived every decision, a pride with fateful consequences for both.

About the author: A former teacher, college professor and school district superintendent, Robert Dean Frelow has studied the Civil War for decades. He has written three novels with Civil War themes. Blood Runs Deep is the first to be published. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and has been a member of several proessional organizations. He is a long time Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow. Besides writing, he is a volunteer with the WISE organization, a nationwide program for high school seniors. Now retired, he lives with his wife Rena, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
